Winters Grasp

Behind the Shot.

In the frigid embrace of an exceptionally cold winter evening in Crested Butte, Colorado, I immersed myself in chest deep snow for an hour to capture this shot. The entire valley lay shrouded in shadow, a vast expanse of snow covered terrain. A solitary, towering peak took center stage, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. The surrounding landscape remained in darkness, accentuating the stark contrast. Overhead, wispy winter clouds added a touch of softness. I find the black and white rendition enhances the interplay between shadow and light, heightening the dramatic atmosphere.
